One of the most meaningful traditions of the ACT rides is the Rider Zero bike, which represents all those folks who have been lost to AIDS or who can no longer participate in the event. Starting with the opening ceremony, the Rider Zero bike is a poignant reminder of why we ride. Each day during the ride, the bike travels on the back of a sweep car and when the route closes for the day, the whole community gathers while the Rider Zero bike is walked into camp for the night. Finally at closing, the Rider Zero bike is again walked in to remind us of why we have spent the last four days on the ride. Each time the bike is walked in, we need 4 volunteers to accompany it. In addition at opening and closing, we also need three people to carry in the 3 banners, representing courage, compassion and commitment.
