Ride Terminology

Here are some terms that you probably will hear on the ride. Check them out so you know what they mean.

Sweep

  • Sweep vehicles pick up riders anywhere along the route and transport them to AM, PM, and Lunch Pits.

U-Pits

  • U-Pits are stops for riders along the route that are supported by day crew volunteers. U-pits have water and sports drinks available and day crew members are encouraged to bring snacks.

Crew Members

  • Crew are volunteers who are dedicated to ensure that worry about nothing except enjoying their Ride. Crew is the backbone and the soul of the Ride – show them some love!

Century Ride/Day

  • A Century Ride is any ride of over 100 miles in one day. Riding a Century Ride is always considered a milestone in a rider's life because it takes courage and fortitude to complete, especially if it involves hills. Every ACT Ride has a day called the Century Day as a way for people to dig deep and learn what it is like to do something really difficult. This symbolizes our comittment to the struggles faced every day by people living with HIV/AIDS.

Riding Caboose

  • Caboose riders are strong riders who ride at the "back of the pack" to bring all riders home for the evening. If you choose to ride caboose, you'll be assigned a day to ride in the back.

Crew Team Captains

  • Team Captains are Crew who work with the Crew Manager to run, organize and problem solve individual team crews throughout the Ride.

Situation Managers

  • Situation Managers "Sit Mans" include the Crew Manager(s), Ride Coordinator, and Steering Committee Chair to ensure that the Ride runs as smoothly as possible for all participants. They work together at the top of the chain of communication.

SAG Bus

  • The SAG bus is a standard yellow school bus that goes from Camp to AM Pit, Lunch Pit, PM Pit, and back to Camp. It moves riders and supplies from larger stops to the next large stop.
